Baby girl and shetland pony competing in barrel racing the early 1990's near Holly Beach Louisiana

She is so determined to increase the steady pace of her loyal Shetland pony. Her time is around 60 seconds but the smile will last a long time. This was 1991 or 1992 near Holly Beach Louisiana and was quite the small town event.

Hurricane Rita was the fourth--most intense Atlantic hurricane ever recorded and the most intense tropical cyclone ever observed in the Gulf of Mexico. And when she came ashore all was devastated, taken down to bare ground, This area was devastated when Hurricane Audrey ranked as the 7th deadliest hurricane to strike the United States (2nd deadliest within Louisiana) in modern record keeping, with at least 500 deaths. The exact number will never be known, as many perished in the storm surge in Cameron and Vermilion parishes, and many missing persons were never found.

Cameron Parish has been rebuilding but it is slow and I don't know if this Rodeo is even held anymore.
