Tommy was saved in November 2014 from a PA kill pen. He had been ridden bareback in a video and appeared well broke. After his quarantine, he arrived at a sister rescue in Maryland that December. While at there, they noticed that he was afraid of being separated and attached himself to a draft horse that was rescued along with Tommy. Tommy would just bury his head into the side of the draft horse and hide. They worked a lot with Tommy and thought he had worked through his stress and were able to adopt him out. Unfortunately, the new home did not have another horse, and Tommy was unable to handle being alone. In a cooperative effort, we adopted Tommy and brought him to Horses with Hope in order to provide him with more intensive training. Although he still has issues with being separated, especially when inside a barn, he has made tremendous progress. This was a life long dream and i will gladly do it again. The beach is about a 5 hour drive from my home in northern Texas. The horses were glad to get home but i think they enjoyed their time at the beach, having my attention on them all the time. We were there from Friday morning to Sunday morning. i wish we could have stayed longer but reality called us back.
The horses stayed at a place called Falconwood Equestrian Center, and I recommend it to others who want to board or take their horses to the beach

Training a Mini Horse - 10 Exercises
Mini Horse Rosy during one of her first training sessions with me. 10 different exercises to establish a good communication and basis for more advanced training. Its all far from being perfect but we will get there! She certainly has the right determination :-) Mini horses or ponies aren't just cute, they want to be taken serious and enjoy a good fun work out. As you can see she needs to loose some weight too :-) Minis are awesome! This little mare is not only a very pretty Mini she also has a very colourful personality which suprises me frequently! She is cheeky, has humour, plays tricks on me but still knows how to behave like a lady when she is asked for it.

Thanks for reminding me! I have been working on a video that tells the story of the minis…but I kept forgetting to finish it. The minis learned a lot while they were with us including how to drive single and as a team...and we loved every minute of it. Training horses is my passion and what I love even more is finding them great homes and purpose in life and the minis found theirs.

Horse Behavior: Halter Breaking a Foal
After viewing the video, you should identify pressure on the lead by the handler as a very simple and basic cue. The handler is asking the horse to give to pressure and follow his nose with a step to the side. The handler rewards the slightest bit of try on the foals part by releasing the lead pressure. If the foal refuses to give, the handler reinforces the initial cue by keeping pressure on the lead until the foal gives in to the pressure. Finally, once the horse has softened up and is responsive to the handler, he is rewarded by a gentle rub on the neck and a relaxed lead.
